Sibling Preparation for Children

Our sibling class prepares children 3 to 7 years old for the arrival of their baby brother or sister. In this class, future siblings will learn what happens when mom goes to the hospital, what babies can do, what babies do all day, hands-on practice changing a diaper, and how to safely hold and play with a newborn. Included is a short video on being a sibling, hands-on activities, and an age-appropriate story. The special role of being a big sibling will be emphasized. At the end of class, each child will receive a certificate of completion.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is an in-person class held at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Eve Smith

Eve is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Nursing. She started her nursing career as a postpartum nurse at Prentice Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill. In the years between Chicago and Boston, Eve raised a family of her own and her career took her into home care, nursing management and hospice. With her children grown and gone, Eve wanted to return to her roots as a mother-baby nurse. She currently works on our mother-baby unit and is also a scrub nurse for labor and delivery. She is passionate about teaching new parents all there is to learn about the self-care needed during the postpartum time, as well as the ins and outs of breastfeeding and newborn care. She also loves to teach our sibling class and seeing the little brothers and sisters get so excited about welcoming their newest family member.
