Prenatal Childbirth Class - One day

This condensed childbirth education class in a fast-paced teaching environment is designed to prepare couples for their labor and birth experience. Topics include information about relaxation breathing, pain management options, and understanding the process of labor. Wear comfortable clothing and bring two pillows. A tour of the unit is provided.

Ellen Harland, RN, CCE

Ellen graduated from St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing.  After serving two years in the Army Nurse Corps, she joined the staff of Emerson.  She has been on the Maternity unit for over 30 years and is cross-trained between the Labor and Delivery unit and the Mother-Baby unit.  She became certified as a Childbirth Educator in 1996.  Ellen particularly enjoys having a couple in her childbirth class, and then caring for them during their birthing experience.

Holly West, RN, BSN, CCE

Holly is a graduate of UMass Lowell Nursing School. She started her nursing career as a postpartum nurse at Emerson Hospital and currently works in both the newborn nursery and labor and delivery as well. She is passionate about teaching new families, especially first time parents, about the labor process and their newborn. She also loves to watch her childbirth education students' birth experiences from beginning to end and feels lucky to be able to do so!

Joyce Maiore, BS, RN, CCE

Joyce graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor's in International Finance and then found her true passion with nursing after the birth of her first child. She then went back to school and received her nursing degree from Middlesex Community College. Joyce has worked in different areas of women's health for many years. She has been working in Labor and Delivery/Maternity at Emerson for four years. However, before that she worked in Washington DC for an international health non-profit as well as a community based women's health center with the Peace Corps in Mali, West Africa. Joyce used hypnobirthing for the birth of her two girls. She is passionate about helping couples prepare and fulfill their desired birth plan.
